Befriending Scheme provides companionship for isolated people, the chance to develop new relationships, and opportunities to participate in social activities.
Befrienders are volunteers; the Befriender can choose the time that they can spend with the service user, rather than being under a professional or family obligation to do so. The Befriender is matched up with the correct service user.
The Befriending Project has been running successful for a number of years now. The aim of the scheme is to eradicate the possibility of isolation for the Service Users. The Befriender could be placed in the following:
- Hospitals
- Care/Nursing homes
- Clients home
- Day Centres
The Befriender will carry out varying duties:
- Reading
- Indulge in social conversation
- Light shopping
