Advocacy scheme

Citizen Advocacy Scheme is a partnership between two people. The Advocate Scheme creates and supports Citizen Advocacy partnerships for people:

  • With many different abilities and different needs for an Advocate.
  • Over 55
  • Living in a variety of situations e.g. on their own, with families, in hospital, in residential nursing homes

The Advocacy Service was set up to meet the needs of the service user who may feel unhappy or vulnerable in dealing with different people of society

An Advocate is a representative, but they may take on many roles:

  • Speaking on behalf of their service user.
  • Making sure their service users rights are not being compromised, neglected or abused.
  • Watching out for their situation when they may be at risk.
  • A Neighbour who lives near and can keep an eye on their service user or help out.
  • A Friend who can share common interests and social activities.
  • Write correspondence letters to friends and relatives.

We only introduce people to possible Advocates after careful consideration, taking into account the clients needs and wishes, shared interests, where the two people live and what sort of advocate the person will need.
